Southwestern Area V-CAP President Romeo Munoz played a leading role in Labor Day activities in Dallas. Munoz held the lead banner at the First Annual Labor Day march from the Texas Theater to Oak Cliff Methodist church. The banner, in English and Spanish, said, "Real Jobs , Real Wages!"

Prior to the march, a big meeting in the Texas Theater focused on the scourge of low wages in America. Reverend Doctor Joerg Rieger hosted a panel of Rick Levy (Texas AFL-CIO), Colby Harris (OUR Walmart), State Representative Roberto Alonzo and U.S. Congressman Marc Veasey. A video of the proceedings is posted on YouTube here. A video of the march is on Facebook here.

Munoz's UAW Local 848, where he is also president, had an even bigger role in the picnic held at Oak Cliff Methodist Church. UAW activist Gerardo Contreras brought his professional DJ sound system and his "locomotive" cooker. While Contreras doled out the grilled hot dogs, Local 848's Retiree Chairman, Gene Lantz, presented speeches by

  • Rev Edgar Bazan of Oak Cliff Methodist
  • Rev Dr Frederick D Haynes III of Friendship West Baptist Church
  • New principal officer of Dallas AFL-CIO Mark York
  • NAACP President Juanita Wallace
  • Executive Vice President of Alliance/AFT (teacher's union) George Rangel
  • Colby Harris of OUR Walmart.

The activities were initiated by North Texas Jobs with Justice, which meets on the 2nd Wednesday of every month at UAW 848, 2218 E Main in GrandPrairie.

On the following Monday, Romeo Munoz kicked off the annual Dallas AFL-CIO Labor Day breakfast. He is president of that body, too.
