UAW LOCAL 2324

Welcome New Members Local 2324 UAW

I

 Dear Union Member,

Congratulations on your new position and welcome to Boston University. As President of UAW Local 2324, I also want to welcome you to our union local. We represent full and part-time clerical, technical and service employees at the Charles River Campus. You may be the only union member in your office or you could be in a department with sixty other union members, but there are about 550 of us in all.

You should receive a green contract book as part of your welcome packet. A copy is also available online at the BU Human Resources website (bu.edu/hr) under "forms and documents" in the list of "quick links." This contract details the benefits and protections you are entitled to as a union member.

Anytime you have a conversation or meeting with your supervisor, or other member of management, that could lead to discipline, you are entitled to have a union representative present. Just call the union office at 617-262-6333 to set up a convenient time.

Founded in 1935, the UAW currently has about 400,000 active members in 600 locals across the US and Canada. In addition to the auto industry, we represent freelance writers, healthcare workers, casino dealers plus staff and faculty at many universities. This union has a proud history of supporting workers pursuits of economic gains and advancing civil rights for all Americans.

Our dues structure calls for payment of 2.5 hours pay per month which is split between the local and the national UAW. In addition the local charges $6.52 a month which is used for local needs only. No dues are taken out on the 5th week of a month with 5 paydays. There is also a one-time initiation fee of $30. This fee is taken out in three payments of $10. You must fill out the yellow card in your welcome packet and return it to the union office. Dues are not deducted until 45 days of your being hired.

No one is required to join the union.  You may choose not to become a union member. However, non-members are required to pay an agency fee which is equal to union dues. Agency fee payers receive the same benefits and protections as union members but have no voting rights or influence in how the union is run.

Should you have any questions or concerns about the union, the contract or your working situation please call us at 617-262-6333. Our office is at 107 Brighton Ave, Boston suite 6,You can email me at gboag@local2324uaw.org.

We are here to help you get the most out of your career at BU.

Thanks,
George Boag
President
